Fun Day - 2006

Sunday 18th June was the date, the venue was Monks Sports Club in Woolston. The event was J-U-M-P’s 2nd annual Fun day.
The event was promised to be bigger and better than last year and the J-U-M-P volunteers certainly delivered.
The day started at 1pm, just as the rain cleared luckily. From the start football was the theme, football skills for the younger kids and later on a football tournament with local kid’s teams. The football was organised and run by Fred Goodall, so a special thanks to him and his team for all their hard work on the day.
Also during the day J-U-M-P had organised many stalls including an adult’s and kid’s Tombolas, run superbly by Margaret Burgess, Margaret Corbett, Janet Gough and Veronica Percival. Thank you.
The BBQ, was gratefully run by our culinary chefs Dave O’Hanlon and Steve Hawthorn. The food was once again donated by ASDA Birchwood. Thanks to ASDA for their continued support.
Thanks to Dawn Roberts and Denise for their amazing face painting skills.
The Raffle was held towards the end of the day with some fantastic prizes including a Family Portrait which was gratefully donated by KC Imaging, a signed and authenticated picture of Real Madrid’s Galacticos and family tickets for a Warrington Wolves game.
Other events and stalls during the Fun day were a bouncy castle, ice cream van and a fantastic Viking village which was set up in the middle of Monk’s sports field.
The Viking re-enactment showed people how the Vikings lived and worked in their day, also they acted out fights in the arena and demonstrated how the Vikings would go into battle and conquer.
Children’s favourite, Tiggeroo made a few appearances during the day, he was followed everywhere by the kids on his walk-a-bout. The children loved having their picture taken with him.
The final event of the day was the Balloon race. At 5pm the gazebo that held the balloons was tipped up and all of them released. Amazingly, just as the balloons were released the heavens opened and the rain fell, so the weather was certainly on our side that day. The furthest balloon was found over 22 miles away in Atherton and the lucky winner won £50.
The Fun Day truly was a magnificent day, made special by everyone that came along and supported it. To all the volunteers that worked hard to organise it, run it and help out on the day. Thank you.
